So as you all know, I'm now on Model Mayhem - gotten a couple of requests for shoots which I'm looking forward to if they come to fruition. But I found out today that one of the photographers who messaged me on there to do a nude set hasn't actually shot any nudes before. Which has made me reconsider the shoot... I know I can't exactly speak to having gallons of experience myself, but that's a part of the thought pattern I've got going on here: If the photographer hasn't shot nudes before and the model hasn't done that much work, how well spent will the time be??? I did get a glowing reference about him - from the model's MUM! - who assured me that he was lovely, but that wasn't for a nude shoot. I know we all have to start somewhere, but I'm really not sure about this...

Thoughts? Suggestions? Offers to chaperone?

I was told once that if there is any doubt in your mind about doing something, don't do it. I think this is one of the situations where it makes the most sense. While the photog needs to get the experience somewhere, it doesn't have to be with you. Let him hire someone else for a first try.

Has the photographer who wants to work with you a good selection of images? you can usually judge a photographer by the images they produce, they don't have to have nudes in their portfolio,
it's how well they can photograph.

If you go by yourself make sure you tell someone where you are going and for how long you expect to be there, keep your mobile turned on. If the person wants a model release signed get a hold of it before the shoot and read it, if money is to be exhanged settle that beforehand.

take friends. for real. he may be a nice guy and all, but he should really do shots with friends before expecting perfect strangers to get naked in front of him for an hour or two.

I'm not going to name names, just because I don't believe that's necessary. But the model in question was only 17 and trying to break into mainstream modelling. I assume that her Mum has insisted on having her account details so she can keep an eye on things and make sure no one tries to exploit her or ask her to do nude work etc. It was pretty funny actually! I was not expecting it at ALL!

The thing is, MM only lets you have 20... Which means you take the pick of your crop and you don't necessarily showcase a good array of your skill... ANd if you're trying to develop different styles... Like break into nude work... Point taken though.

There's no money, it's TFP and I always have my phone on unless I know the person!

That's what I'm beginning to think... I don't mind working with people who don't have zillions of hours of experience, but I'm not the best at deciding on my own poses and I still don't know all the tricks and lingo etc... I'm beginning to think that this wouldn't be worth the time for either of us!

Ah, sorry!

One of the models who he's photographed is underage - she's 17 (18 is legal age here) but she's done a wide variety of stuff, including swimsuits, and she's trying to break into the world of professional modelling. I think her Mum is just looking out for her daughter or is acting as a sort of "manager" I'm not 100% sure but she replied to my message. Was reasonably amused by it - but it was a good reference that she gave me nonetheless

For the experience, it would probably be good for both of you. You'd both learn a lot from each other, and in the plainest of terms, probably. I was personally thinking of the weirdo factor. Since it's his first time, maybe he's just in it to get his rocks off. Maybe hoping a pr0n0 will start up or something. But then, I have a tough time trusting anyone to have good intentions, and not an ulterior motive of some sinister sort...

I guess what I'm saying is, if you think it's trustworthy, it couldn't hurt anything. If not, well, use your best judgement.
